Will this week’s big focus be North Wilkesboro or Ross Chastain?
Right up until Sunday night’s green flag, the old race track will get the spotlight, as it should, because this reclamation project truly borders on miracle work.
At just over a half-mile, North Wilkesboro is no place to race if you’re looking to find some elbow room and maybe blend into the scenery. Everywhere Ross looks Sunday night, he’ll see fellow racers, and some of them aren’t happy with him.
Not every NASCAR week promises must-see TV — and if we’re being honest, not every week delivers it. But lately, Ross has been delivering the goods (or bads, depending on your angle) and a little backwoods bullring seems like the perfect place to settle some scores.
Or a great place to keep adding to the tally of dented fenders and damaged relationships. Cinch up them belts.
NASCAR SPEED FREAKSRoss Chastain’s All Star fate, Carl Edwards’ comeback are hot topics
First, Ryan Newman returned, and now Carl Edwards is dropping serious hints?
“Cousin Carl” spent part of his Sunday in the Fox booth at Darlington and was so polished and informative, you’d think he does this every week. Knowing what we know of Carl, that’s no surprise.
But he did raise eyebrows by talking of a comeback, six-plus years after his sudden retirement at age 37. He didn’t miss racing after he quit, but now says he does.
First will come some work in a racing simulator, and if a comeback is coming, it doesn’t sound like he’ll just be dabbling.
“… I want to do it at 100%,” he said. “If I ever come back, I want to be able to give it all I got.”
If you’re new around here, trust me, he’d be a welcome addition to the Sunday lineup.
