In a bizarre incident, a West Indies Championship cricket match between Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana was suspended after cows got on the pitch overnight and damaged part of it. Trinidad and Tobago Red Force were up against Guyana Happy Eagles in a four-day match at the Conaree Sports Club, Conaree. Play was suspended on Day 2 after cows got on the pitch overnight and trampled part of the field.
There have been a few incidents when play was delayed or suspended due to weird reasons. During the Bangladesh tour of South Africa in 2017, the second session of Day 1 was delayed due to a delay in food for the visitors. Similarly, an ODI match between New Zealand and India was halted due to excessive sunlight.
Meanwhile, the West Indies are currently in Australia. The team scripted history after they defeated Australia at the Gabba. Shamar Joseph was the star of West Indies as he bagged seven wickets in the second innings to help West Indies win by eight runs.
The Test series was followed by the ODI series where the visitors were hammered comprehensively. The teams met in the 1st T20I on Friday where West Indies suffered a defeat by 11 runs. However, West Indies gave a glimpse of their potential after running Australia close. Batting first, a fiery 70 by David Warner, clubbed with 39 by Josh Inglis and 37 by Tim David, led Australia to a strong total of 213.
West Indies came out all guns blazing in the chase as openers Johnson Charles and Brandon King put West Indies on top after adding 89 runs for the first wicket in just 8.3 overs. Charles was out for 42 while King departed for 53. Australia made a strong comeback in the match as West Indies’ middle order crumbled. A late cameo by Jason Holder was not enough to take West Indies over the line as the team could only score 202-8.
